Are You Giving Accurate Answers To These 5 Typical Interview Questions?

Regardless of which field you opt to work in, you can expect to be repeatedly asked certain questions in different interviews. Even if you have already answered these questions in other interviews, it does not mean it is okay to not prepare for these questions again. Certainly, responding to these questions can be harder than other interview questions. Thus, note down these important questions, and never again leave for an interview before preparing for them.

Tell us about yourself:

This question does not have any predetermined limit to it. Job-hunt says that you must not specifically tell a particular story about yourself, or start specifying unimportant details about your education, former jobs, hobbies or interests etc.

In reality, no one really is interested in such insignificant details about you, they make you sound vague and purposeless. You should rather think of one specific and engrossing thing about yourself, that spellbinds your interviewers. Now that thing about you depends on what quality the interviewer is looking for in a candidate. For example, if it`s good supervision, you can claim, ‘One thing that can perfectly defines me is my perpetual passion for leading people.’ Once you have determined the key descriptor, whatever you say to answer the question must pertain to the descriptor. That will certainly make you sound steadfast and clear.

Why are you interested in this job?

The reason you should think twice before answering this question, is that many people miss out on the true importance of this question while interviewing. You may say you applied for the job as you always had keen interest in accounting, or that you are an editor and thus prefer to work in a magazine. Or maybe someone you know recommended the job. No doubt that all these answers might be true, yet they are barely inspiring.

Hence, your answer should be based on the challenges of the job, and how your talent can enable you to satisfy your bosses. Just talk persuasively about how you are perfect for the position.

Tell us about your biggest weakness:

Now for this question, coming up with an honest answer is not a piece of cake, as at the end of the day, you have to just mentionatleast one weakness out of many that you have. If, unfortunately, you are not prepared for this question, you might come up with a reply such as you aren’t able to confine yourself to deadlines, or you abhor disunity in a team. Giving such answers equals taking a risk.

This doesn’t mean you should lie. Instead, mention a weakness that actually is a strength- like, ‘I am a perfectionist who always strives for distinction, no matter what, for that I have to push myself hard on projects.’ Now that, is a perfect answer.

What`s the reason for quitting your current job?

The wrong way to answer to this question is to mention any negative aspect of your previous job, which made you think you needed to switch, like your boss or colleagues weren’t cooperative, or the job is too demanding. Instead, portray yourself as an ambitious employ who wants to step up and build his career. Here you can talk about your game plan. Talking about a little regret on leaving friendly and inspirational colleagues and a boss, won’t harm- but don’t make it too emotional!

Where do you think you`ll be within the next decade?

According to Collegegrad, instead of saying that you would want to be sitting in your interviewer’s seat, say, working as a Director or Vice President, because your interviewer might be offended if you try to fit yourself in his place!

You should simply talk about a 10-year goal without associating it with some individual. That will make you sound like someone with a clear vision. Don’t make it sound too vague, or too definite, because in modern-day, nothing is certain.
