Spring Starts on Monday, but Winter Chill is Hanging on

Monday marks the first day of spring — but it'll still feel a bit like winter.

There's a high of 6 C and a low of -1 C that day, with a 30 per cent chance of showers throughout the afternoon and evening, according to Environment Canada.

On Tuesday, Toronto's temperatures will swing between a low of -12 C and a high of 8 C, with a mix of sun and cloud.

"Then we've got a cold front coming through Tuesday night into Wednesday," says Steve Knott, meteorologist with Environment Canada.

That means Wednesday and Thursday are looking to be colder than normal, Knott says. 

"We're kind of oscillating up and down right now between colder, and slightly milder."

First spring weekend will be warmer, rainy

The temperatures will start ticking upward by the weekend, hitting a double-digit high on Saturday of 10 C, but prepare to get a bit wet — there's a 60 per cent chance of rain on both Friday and Saturday.

So when is warmer weather finally heading our way for good? 

Knott says that's hard to answer right now.

"One of the things we do know, though, is the Great Lakes don't have a whole of lot ice on them... that bodes well for maybe some milder temperatures for the spring," he says.
